The story of a rediscovered smile: when lip filler heals an inner wound

Some smiles remain imprisoned for years.
Not for lack of joy, but out of shame.
For those living with a visible scar or facial asymmetry, smiling or showing their teeth becomes a difficult, anxiety-inducing, and sometimes painful act. It is as if, with every laugh, the whole world focuses right there, on that detail they wish they could remove.

This is the story of a young woman who, since she was an infant, has lived with the scars of a cleft lip((cheiloschisis) surgery. Years of operations had restored functionality to her face, but not the serenity to smile without fear.

When she finally arrived at one of our clinics, she experienced (and allowed us to share in) the moving moment of being able to return to smiling freely. All this thanks to expert consultation and a 10-minute lip filler treatment performed by the skilled hands of our aesthetic doctors.

What is a cleft lip? Cheiloschisis and cleft palate

Think of a newborn baby girl who is already a princess to everyone: we are talking about Blu Jerusalema, the firstborn of Gianluca Vacchi and Sharon Fonseca. For months before she was born, the anticipation was made spectacular by social media dances and viral choreographies involving the "extended" Vacchi-Fonseca family, including household staff and pets.

But her arrival five years ago opened a new chapter in the storytelling of the entrepreneur, DJ, and king of social media. He had to announce, along with the happy event, the concern shared by every parent of having to manage, immediately after birth, an anomaly that affects their newborn's face.

TheCheiloschisis (cleft lip) and cleft palate (an opening in the roof of the mouth) are congenital malformations that develop in the first weeks of intrauterine life, when facial tissues do not fuse correctly.
The cleft lip affects the upper lip, creating a visible gap that can extend up to the nose; cleft palate involves the palate, potentially causing difficulties with breathing, feeding, and speech.

Thetreatment is, primarily, surgical involving one or more corrective operations performed in the first months of life, aimed at restoring mouth functionality and improving symptoms (such as difficulties with speaking, breastfeeding, etc.). The patient is followed throughout their life by a medical team specialists: the plastic surgeon, stomatologist, thedentist along with prosthodontistandorthodontist, thespeech therapist and the psychologist.

Even after surgical correction, these conditions can leave visible marks: scars, asymmetry, volume lossandmisalignment between the two halves of the lip. These are not just aesthetic issues, but ones that have a profound psychological and emotional impact.

The role of fillers: restoring balance

In expert hands, aesthetic medicine can intervene to harmonize volume and improve facial symmetry, even in cases of suboptimal post-operative results. This is the case for our patient who previously underwent surgery for a cleft lip.
Through micro-injections of hyaluronic acid-based fillers, the doctor can:

  • Restore volume to the upper lip
  • Soften the scar
  • Rebalance the lip contour
  • Improve the proportion with the lower lip

In our patient's case, the filler acted as a bridge between the two halves of her smile, restoring not only facial harmony but also providing a confidence boost to the person wearing it.

Aesthetic medicine: more than just beauty, it's about restoring function and self-esteem

Gummy smile, excessive sweating, facial asymmetry,burns,scarringpost-surgical or from acne, unwanted tattoo removal. Beyond treating cleft lip scars, there are other aesthetic medicine procedures that also have a psychological impact:

  • Botulinum toxin for correcting a gummy smile.
  • Botox for hyperhidrosis of the underarms, scalp, hands, and feet.
  • Reconstructive fillers for trauma or accident outcomes
  • Biorevitalization to improve skin quality after burns or scarring
  • Fractional laser to reduce post-surgical marks
  • Combined treatments for asymmetries following facial paralysis

The BTX Bar Method: precision, empathy, and personalization

“Aesthetic medicine - comments our medical founder Camilla Di Pasquali-is called that, but it always has a functional value when done well. If you focus only on aesthetics, it’s hard to appreciate the improvement, as you only see the change”.

In our approach, every treatment begins with a meticulous analysis of facial proportions and the patient's emotional needs.
TheBTX Bar method does not just "fill" or "erase": it builds a bespoke plan where the ultimate goal is to pursue harmony and authenticity.

When the patient looked in the mirror after the treatment, for the first time, she gave us a full smile, without holding back.
